Think Twice About Eye Drops

The eye drops you use to combat computer vision syndrome may be making your dry eyes dryer!

Many popular brands of eye drops have ingredients that can worsen your dry eyes over time.

Visine’s active ingredient, Tetrahydrozoline, constricts the eye’s superficial blood vessels.

Your eyes may look less red in the short term, but over time, your eyes may need more and more eye drops to feel better.

Other brands, such as Systane, are a little better, though the main ingredients (propylene glycol) are found in antifreeze. Another ingredient in Systane (Polyethylene Glycol 400) is generally considered safe, but is derived from petroleum.

The other problem with a lot of these eye drops is that they address the symptoms, and not the root issue. They might make your eyes feel better, but they don’t help your eyes to produce more tears.

If you want to have healthier eyes, and not become addicted to eye drops, there are more natural alternatives that help you produce more tears.

I have used Dr. Schulze’s American Botanical Pharmacy Eyebright Formula (not affiliated) with great results.

It contains natural botanical ingredients that remove contaminants from your eyes, reduce irritation, and support blood circulation to your eyes. They also help your eyes to produce tears.

If you do choose to try it out, please follow the directions. It is a concentrated formula that needs to be diluted.

Skip the artificial tears. Your eyes will thank you.
