Flex Your Butt

Here is one cue you can use to improve posture while you walk:

Flex your butt!

By flexing your butt while you stand or walk, your will improve your posture by activating certain muscles.

One group of muscles that specifically comes to mind are the feet. When you flex you butt, notice that your feet should be resisting the urge to twist outward.

Try it.

This will activate muscles in your foot and elevate your arches. Higher arches mean better dynamic balance and speed (study below πŸ‘‡). Remember to wear minimalist shoes!

Another thing you will notice is an engagement of the abs. Who doesn’t want stronger abs?!

I personally notice a stretch in the front of my hips which naturally get tight from sitting.

Get tall by lifting the crown of your head up high, and roll your shoulders back. Now you have some pretty good posture!

In summary, flexing your butt while standing or walking will:

βœ… Activate foot muscles
βœ… Increase your foot arch, leading to better balance
βœ… Activate ab muscles
βœ… Activate glute muscles
βœ… Stretch tight hip flexors

Try it and let me know how it feels!
